Social media is widely used by students. Previous studies have projected conflicting results regarding the influence of online peer learning via social media on academic achievement. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that impact on academic achievement. Building on the literature, the study proposed a conceptual model consists of self-efficacy; engagement, performance expectancy, social influence, peer feedback, and collaboration were incorporated as independent variables that influence the academic achievement. Data was collected from 369 undergraduate students. The findings of regression analysis showed that the strongest predictor of academic achievement in online peer learning was performance expectancy followed by collaboration, social influence, and engagement. An online peer learning influences significantly on academic achievement. Decision makers were advised to support the implementation of online peer learning in universities

An exposition of constructivism account to construct knowledge and to create meaningful learning environment for teacher education

    Get PDF
Since last ten years, it becomes indispensable to talk about constructivism in relation to the teaching and learning process. Yet the term of constructivism is still not well defined and contradicts. Generally constructivism refers to a set of views about how individuals learn and about how those who help them to learn ought to facilitate, which in this paper referred as Constructivist Learning Account (CLA). CLA holds an assumption that learners actively construct their own sets of meanings and understandings; knowledge is not a mere copy of the external world, nor is knowledge acquired by passive absorption or by simple transference from one person (educator) to another (a learner or knower). Clearly, knowledge is constructed not acquired. CLA also stresses that we cannot be certain that any two individuals will construct the same understandings. Even if they use the same linguistic formulations to express what they have learned, their deep understandings might be quite different. Hence, a better understanding of constructive learning accounts as a component of a long life learning process and how teacher education programme should engage with it is needed to create a meaningful learning environment

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is an organization under the United Nations (UN), which serves to disseminate accurate information about the nuclear matters. In accordance with its role, an International Nuclear Information System (INIS) was established in 1970 to provide opportunities for member countries under the auspices of the IAEA to share information, expertise and knowledge, particularly in the nuclear field. Malaysia became a member since 1978, and the first country's input was posted in 1980. INIS activities are supervised by liaison officers (LO) to monitor and oversee matters relating to INIS management. INIS has developed 49 subject matters (subject heading) and LO needs to prepare, review and compile the records before sending to INIS database at IAEA headquarters in Vienna, Austria. Material received will be processed before distributing to all IAEA member states through INIS website or CD to countries that subscribe to it.This paper focused on how Malaysia contributes to development of INIS and to promote Malaysian about the existence of this database that not only focused on nuclear science but also related technologies

A review study on spiritual intelligence, adolescence and spiritual intelligence, factors that may contribute to individual differences in spiritual intelligence and the related theories

    Get PDF
This paper reviewed the articles about adolescence, its relation to spiritual intelligence and the related theories. The adolescence period is the best time to develop positive emotions and training skills, because adolescents are seeking to find their identity and their future personality at this period. Spiritual intelligence has a significant influence on the quality of life and it goes without saying that adolescence is a sensitive period which requires specific training to make a brighter future and be exposed to the difficulties. Spirituality can be viewed as a form of intelligence because it predicts functioning and adaptation and offers capabilities that enable people to solve problems and attain goals. Conceiving spirituality as a sort of intelligence extends the psychologist’s conception of spirituality and allows its association with the rational cognitive processes like goal achievement and problem solving. Emotional intelligence allows us to judge in which situation we are involved and then to behave appropriately within it. Spiritual intelligence allows us to ask if we want to be in this particular situation in the first place

The aim of this study was to determine whether an intervention program on Spiritual Intelligence will help to improve spiritual intelligence among Iranian female adolescents studying in an Iranian School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The sample comprised of 32 female students, 16 assigned to the experimental group and another 16 in the control group. The study utilized the quasi experimental design with a pre-test and a post-test. The experimental group was given 5 sessions of training in spiritual intelligence (SIG Training) over a period of 5 weeks. The control group was given life skills training for the duration of the experiment. Spiritual intelligence was measured by Integrated Spiritual Intelligence Scale (ISIS) by Amran and Dryer (2007). Results showed that the SIG training improved spiritual intelligence in the experimental group as well as the subscales in spiritual intelligence. The subscale ‘Gratitude’ showed a significant increase when a comparison was made between the pre-test and post-test in the experimental group. The control group showed a significant increase in one subscale namely ‘purpose’ but there was no significant change for the other subscales. Hence, the training given to the experimental group was effective in enhancing spiritual intelligence

    Get PDF
The main goal of this study is to determine whether SI-G training is able to help increase SQ. The present experimental study examined the effect of SI-G training on spiritual intelligence among Iranian students in Imam Khomeini School situated in Kuala Lumpur. This study has evaluated the effect of SI-G training program regarding the increasing SQ and its subscales. It evaluates the follow up test and the sustainability of the training program. The study shows that with SI-G training, spiritual intelligence and its subscales can be enhanced. Essentially, spiritual intelligence is a factor that affects training, practice and society in general, there is a relationship between most of the subscales of spiritual intelligence, therefore, training some of the subscales of spiritual intelligence can directly affect the other subscales. In this study, spiritual intelligence was measured by Integrated Spiritual Intelligence Scale (ISIS) employed to assess students' spiritual intelligence before and after the three weeks training period. Subsequent findings were discovered following SI-G training program. The result of the pre-test showed that most of the students have low SQ and the researcher has chosen 34 of them as sample. The sample gratitude has the lowest score and run through the highest mean between other subscales. This study revealed the significant relationship between 22 subscales of spiritual intelligence and between these subscales in relation to spiritual intelligence. The fmdings provided that SI-G training has effect on increasing spiritual intelligence and also improved most of the subscales. After 3 weeks, the researcher conducted a follow up test, comparing its result with post test, revealed that training program did not have good sustainability on SQ and some of the subscales. However, after comparing the results with pre-test, training program showed an effect on increasing SQ within three weeks of training
